He’s giving you another chance…
It was one of the most difficult periods in the life of God’s people. The cities of Judea were destroyed and burned, Jerusalem fell after almost two years of siege by the Babylonian army, the Temple was destroyed, hundreds of thousands of Israelis killed, and the survivors were taken prisoner. Long before all this, the prophet Jeremiah warned of its coming, and if the people had listened to his words and stopped breaking the commandments of God, all these disasters would have passed away. Jeremiah mourned the tragic fate of his people with a downcast heart and tears.
‘My soul hath them still in remembrance, and is humbled in me.’
But despite the gloomy atmosphere of hopelessness and despair, he sees a spark of hope and prays to God:
‘This I recall to my mind, therefore have I hope. It is of the Lord’s mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not. They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness.’
God’s patience may run out, but His mercy is inexhaustible. It is renewed every morning. That’s why there’s hope in your situation, too. Despite what happened in your life yesterday, today is a new day.
«It is of the Lord’s mercies that we are not consumed.» If you’re still alive, then God’s mercy for you hasn’t run out. Once again, He gives you the opportunity and power to start fresh: to repent, to correct yesterday’s mistakes, and to walk in the path of blessings. Do not miss this opportunity!
